US Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Ukraine Natalka Cmoc familiarized themselves with the cooperation status with the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. Accompanied by the Head of SBGSU, Major General Serhii Deineko, the US and Canadian Ambassadors inspected equipment and tools that the SBSGU received as part of the international technical assistance under Nuclear Smuggling Detection and Deterrence program. It is worth noting that Canada actively participated in providing assistance to the SBGSU as part of the co-financing of this project.  One of the SBSGU units presented SUVs, minibuses, surveillance equipment, equipment for detecting radioactive elements, diesel generators, and personal protective equipment to Bridget Brink and Natalki Cmoc.

Mrs. Bridget Brink assured the border guards of her faith in their strength. "I see how much you have achieved. These successes show that you can achieve what you need, that you are able to protect yourself, you just need some resources, and our Canadian colleagues and I are proud to be able to provide you with those resources. The equipment that was transferred is intended to detect and deter the nuclear smuggling; this cooperation takes place under the programs of the US Department of Energy. We do this in order to prevent serious incidents that may occur. I also want to thank you for the cooperation with International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Bureau at the United States Embassy, which takes care of cooperation with law enforcement agencies, and enabled providing assistance to the special unit of SBGSU," noted US Ambassador to Ukraine. "Since 2008, a big investment has been made, and we are ready to expand it and want to recognize how important it is for your work," Bridget Brink emphasized.

In turn, Canada’s Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Ukraine Natalka Cmoc thanked the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and the US Department of Energy for organizing the event, which allowed them to come together to officially hand over equipment and celebrate successful cooperation. "This is a good way to pay tribute to the strong partnership we have built over the past few years to strengthen international security and stability. Canada and Ukraine have a special close relationship, which is why we are very proud to participate in this event with the United States to help Ukraine strengthen its nuclear security. I would like to note the extraordinary dedication and determination of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. Your work, our dear partners, along with Canada's financial support, will help strengthen Ukraine's resilience and we are proud to be part of this success story. Thank you very much for your service, for protecting the borders of Ukraine, Europe, and the world. Glory to Ukraine!"

SBSGU Head Major General Serhii Deineko, sincerely thanked both the government of the United States of America and the government of Canada for the assistance that is constantly provided to the State Border Guards Service.

"Thanks to you, the State Border Guard Service is becoming stronger and stronger every day. This allows us to reliably protect the state borders and conduct combat operations on the front line. Thank you for making us stronger!" Serhii Deineko emphasized.

Separately, during the meeting, the diplomatic delegation was presented with video surveillance systems and means of communication that border guards use in the northern border of Ukraine.

"Our goal is to cover the entire border with video surveillance systems. During 2022-2024, this process probably gave the greatest result," noted SBSG Head.

Today, the department has the opportunity to properly arrange the border with the EU and Moldova, and the majority of the work on arrangement is done by the State Border Service on its own, because the border guards are aware of the full responsibility. We must take full range of measures in order to be able to talk about the fact that the border is protected to its best possible level. Therefore, the help of international partners will definitely never be excessive.
